This year ITFA’s Head of Insurance, Silja Calac was again invited to take part in the Annual General Meeting of ICISA – the International Credit Insurance and Surety Association with which ITFA cooperates closely on various regulatory topics and whose Executive Director, Robert Nijhout is a member of the ITFA Insurance Committee.

The 76th General and Associate Meeting of ICISA took place on 30th May 2018 in Stockholm. The event was very well organized and had various interesting presentations and panel discussions on topics related to credit insurance and surety. There were also a lot of discussions around technical innovation (block-chain and big data were well explained), and of course regulation was also on the agenda; Silja Calac chaired a panel on Banks Credit Insurance and Basel III/IV. She discussed with two bankers (Tero Nyman, Product Manager at Nordea Finance, and Christophe Meurier, CEO at GreenStars BNP Paribas) and two insurers (Olivier David, Global Head of Structured Credit and Political Risk Insurance at Atradius and Erik Skovgaard Nielsen, Country Manager Denmark at Atradius) regulatory challenges for cooperation between banks and insurance companies under the present and upcoming regulatory regimes. Together with the following workshop on Basel IV held by Christophe Meurier, this was a wake-up call for all attendees that the new regulations might have a serious impact on risk mitigation through insurance products and that this should be on the top of the priority list for both ITFA and ICISA.
